City Year LA '14 Registration

While your City Year begins full-time on Monday, July 29th 2013, you are required to be at a half-day in-person registration the week before. At registration you will sign employment paperwork, verify your AmeriCorps registration, learn about your benefits and complete your background checks. It is mandatory that you take part in this in-person registration date. If for any reason you are unable to attend you must contact the City Year admissions team as soon as possible to discuss your circumstances. Failure to participate in registration may prevent you from serving with City Year Los Angeles.

Date: Tues 7/23 and Wed 7/24

Location: City Year Los Angeles office (606, S. Olive St., Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90014)

Sessions will take place in the morning or afternoon and you will only have to attend one, half-day session. Sessions will be assigned to you in the early summer

Please plan any summer employment, internships or relocations accordingly.

What will you need to register:

1. Original social security card

2. Unexpired passport

1. Original social security card

2. Original Birth Certificate and Driver’s License

AND

TB Test results (More information will be posted about this in the late spring/early summer)

If you are moving to Los Angeles we highly suggest moving in time for registration. The week of registration is a great time to meet fellow corps members, orientate yourself to the city, and get settled in your new house.

In preparation for your year of service we will be collecting photos for the bus/train passes (Metro TAP Passes) that you will receive and use for public transportation.

Sticker Project #IamCYLA

Tell us a little bit about yourself without saying anything at all!

Take a picture with your City Year sticker that represents who you are and what you will bring to the corps. For example, you and your CY sticker in front of your hometown monument, wearing your favorite team’s logo or perhaps those things together. Use your imagination and have fun! Email sweiner@cityyear.org if you didn’t receive a sticker in your welcome packet.

Make sure your face is lit. We want to see your beautiful smile! Avoid shadows & dark settings.
Is that an ant or a corps member? Stay close and in focux. Stand proudly in the foreground to get a great shot with the sticker.
Avoid submitting group shots. This makes it easier for us to identify who will soon be rocking a yellow jacket.
Please don’t submit photos with minors. By submitting a photo you agree to let City Year Los Angeles use your photo for a blog post and photo collage.

Send your picture to sweiner@cityyear.org so we can add yours to the collage of the incoming corps!
Upload your photo to the City Year Los Angeles Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/CityYearLA/ ) and share it with us on twitter by tagging @CityYearLA and using the #IamCYLA hashtag.

City Year is always changing, like sand beneath our feet. That’s good. Learn to love change. Change is what keeps the organization moving forward. The ancient Greek idea of torsos is at work at City Year: a boat is at sea, and to survive the journey without docking the boat, the crew must fix and replace every board, one at a time, while at sea; by the time the boat returns to the harbor, it is a completely different boat; but of course, it is the same boat. Every year there is new change to be embraced- the growth of the corps, new locations, and new ideas!

We all have special concerns, insights and sensitivities that we carry with us seven days a week, 24 hours a day. These concerns, insights and sensitivities are very important. However, we all must be very careful not to let them harden into an overriding personal agenda that prevents us from having the flexibility to learn and grow, receive new information, examine new ways of thinking — or most importantly — get our work done and meet our commitments.
